From Stars and Wishes to falling asleep at the table, there are several popular ways to end a TTRPG session. Here I hope to create a modular tool that GMs can use to end a session, pulling from several tools out there.

The first time I was exposed to codifying this procedure was in Dogs in The Vineyard. In that game, there are two moves that wrap up the session: reflection and direction. I chose to use this framework, but eschewing the mechanics. 

What are the goals of this tool?

  • Identify how characters develop
  • Identify what went well 
  • Distribute rewards
  • Get a sense of what the next session will be like
  • Get player’s input on what they want to see in the game going forward
  • Schedule the next session
